Trip on November 5-6 : Ishinomaki for cleaning factory office

Transportation:

Nadia proposes shared bus with “Association des Francais du Japon” which allows us to arrive at Ishinomaki Minato school on saturday morning. And takes us back to Tokyo on sunday leaving Ishinomaki 14:00, ETA Tokyo 22:00.

The price for round trip is 7500yen/person.

The payment for bus fee will be done on bus departure.

Meeting point:November 4 (Fri) 22:00 Kudanshita station exit 1

Attention:As they offer us the lowest price, the bus won’t take us to Onsen, we need to arrange taxi, which probably costs 3000 yen for one way. We can spread the cost with other volunteers.

Accommodation:

-NADIA provides accommodation at the HQ Ishinomaki.(For PLAN 1 and PLAN  2)
-Style: Japanese Style (futon mats are provided in shared rooms, but no futon cover, nor blanket, bring your own sleeping bag )

Attention: It’s getting very cold at Ishinomaki, especially during the night, so please make sure to bring warm pajamas and warm futon.

For the weekend of 23-25/Sep

Some of you may know, the situation in Ishinomaki has been improved compared to 5 months ago when we first visited there. Some shops restarted their business again, some moved to temporary house, some returned to their house.

We don’t see debris around town, evacuation centers are about to close, and needs from house owners are changing.

But going there every week, every second we realize there are still a lot to do, and we are facing to move to new phase.

In order to keep providing victim oriented support, we are in the middle of research coordinating with local authority, other volunteer groups, trying to find out what is really needed, how we can accomplish the mission.

For the weekend of 23-25/Sep, it will going to be a research trip by Nadia members, and volunteer trip won’t be organized.

However, as we said, there’s  still a lot to do at Ishinomaki. For instance, all volunteer groups are trying to clean gutters, as even after 6 months of Tsunami, local governments are still not ready to proceed to do.

Nadia won’t organize a trip, nor a bus to Ishinomaki, but if any volunteer is ready to go by your own transportation and ready to clean gutters with your own initiative, we are happy to have you at Nadia HQ, and provide equipments for cleaning gutters.

Nadia members may not be able to work with you as we are going to do some research, but we will be there. If you need any assistance or guidance, we are available too.

Ishinomaki Kids Hockey tournament in Shin Yokohama!

Our NADIA core member Joji Hiratsuka’s hockey team is organizing a mini-kids tourney for Ishinomaki hockey kids at Shin Yokoyama, in conjunction with some hockey school people around Tokyo .
They are bringing a team of kids from Ishinomaki to play against  kids from the Kanto area.
There will be a bbq after nearby.

We are trying to get people to come watch the games and enjoy the bbq.  All proceeds will go to help build new skating facilities for kids in the Ishinomaki area.  

Ticket price will be 5,000 yen for the games and bbq.   It is a fun casual tournament, its not the NHL but should be worth to see, so if anyone is interested,  let us know !

NADIA gets support from Quebec Province

Yesterday, NADIA met with Quebec Province Prime Minister, Jean Charest, Minister of International affairs, Ms Gagnon-Tremblay, as well as the General Delegate in Tokyo, Mr Charron, and was presented with an official Motion that the Province adopted in regards to Japan’s March 11 disaster.

NADIA was also granted with 20,000 CAD and a promise for further ongoing support for our help activities in Ishinomaki.

This marks the first official recognition of NADIA.

Alternative stay plan/宿泊について

As there is difficulty to make ryokan reservation during summer season, currently we are only offering a plan which stay at our Headquarter.

But we are aware that some of our volunteers appreciates hotel/ryokan with shower and a bit of privacy.

Here are some hotels which are close to Ishinomaki station. Ishinomaki station is located 5mins by taxi from our HQ, 25mins by walk.

Many restaurants as well as shops are back to their business.

Nadia will not reserve rooms for you on behalf, but those who prefer staying Ryokan can make reservation by calling them directly. There may be left only few rooms available, we advice you to make a reservation as soon as possible!
